I’m installing “Hardipanel” over one-half inch foam board on a stick-framed house. Discovered
too late that the panel joints and nail-heads
rule out a professional looking finish. Since
the board is cement based and roughly finished,
I’ve decided to try a single overcoat of stucco,
three-eights to one-half inch thick. Any advice
or comments would be helpful and appreciated.

Abram,
Treat it as a backer board and use your mesh and stucco accordingly or just use Granosite or Rockcote to finish over it as it is. See Rockcote info here
