First time house designer here. The Mass. state energy code dictates an R-19 wall which assumes 2×6 studs. Builders are telling me to use 2x6s @ 24″ o.c.; my structural engineer advises 16″ o.c. due to oil-canning effects. How does stud spacing drive the decisions I make regarding GWB & sheathing thickness, and how does stud spacing effect siding? I know that 24″ o.c. is cheaper to build and more energy efficient…are there other considerations? thanks!
