Is there an easy way to estimate stock needs in constructing 24′ x 32′ outside walls with 2″ x 6″ lumber, 10′ walls, 10′ gable end walls with a 10/12 pitch roof line using both 24″ and 16″ oc STUDDING. nEED TO ORDER STOCK AND HOPE THERE IS A RULE OF THUMB guide to use.

24'+24'+32'+32'=112 lineal feet of wall, right?
So order 12 12'ers for your two 24' walls. Assuming double top plate, single bottom plate.
Then order 12 16'ers for your two 32' walls. Assuming dbl top plates.
Now take 112' and divide it by 16"......84 studs.... add in 15% or so for corners, blocking, temp bracing, waste, etc.
Now take 112' and divide by 24" ..... 56 studs add in 15% for blah blah blah...
Now for your gables assuming your rafters are spanning the 24' direction... you're gonna have a gable rise of 10'.... so more 10' 2x6's are gonna work nicely. 24' gable walls? Figure on needing roughly half of what you'd need for a full height wall. Soooo, we take your 48' of total gable wall.... or we take 24' of gable wall because we only need half as many studs and divide by 16" or 24"...... get it?
Here's what I'd order.....
(12) 12'ers
(12) 16'ers
About 120 studs for 16" OC
About 80 studs for 24" OC.
In all honesty I order closer to 20% extra for waste, bracing, window/door penetrations, blocking etc. But that's just me.
Where do I send the bill for your take-off?
Be sure and post pics of your new garage. ;)

I was following you real good till you got here
About 120 studs for 16" OC
About 80 studs for 12" OC
How the hell you need more studs for 16 OC then 12 OC?
and why are you framing walls 12 oc all of a sudden...
you mean 24 instead of 12?
Yup, typo.
He gets what he paid for I guess! ;)
I expect you knew what I meant anyway, no?
yeah....
but then you went and confused me...
not hard to do by the way.
