I am wrapping my HVAC trunk with blue styrofoam insulation panels which has thin plastic cover on both sides. I am using the panels to reduce cost. I am sealing the meeting edges with spray foam. I used foil duct tape to hold the pieces together, but this tape is not staying on. Gorilla tape seems to work. I did wipe down the surface, thinking the dust was problem and dried it. It did not help. Why is it that foil tape does not stick to plastic covers on these panels but sticks to just about anything else? By the way, standard masking tape did not stay on, either. Thank you to all in advance.

Try Tyvek tape or Tuck tape..both $$$ but really good stuff.

Also in the "T" family is Tu Tuff Seam Tape. Makes tyvek tape seem like a sticky note pad. I was using some today, outside, about 15 degrees, and it's stickier than I&W on a sunny day. About $32 for a 4" x 100' roll, and worth every penny
Stuff like that is worth it, when the need can't be ignored.
I bought some foil tape at HarborF..and 3 rolls for 10 bucks sounded good, so I got 6. Big mistake, the junk won't even stay stuck to itself..THAT BAD.

Either Tyvek tape or Tuck Tape should do the job for you. Availability will depend on where you live. If you're in the US then Tyvek is probably easier to come by. If you're Canadian, Tuck Tape can be found in just about every lumber yard you can find.
