I am adding new space to 1930’s house. Existing subfloor is diagonal fir 1x8s which now have 1/4″ or so space between. New area subfloor is 3/4 Ply. I plan to patch hole and replace serious soft spots with ply and then “fair the entire area with 1/4” ply. I am installing carpet for now but plan to replace in future with hardwood. I am installing radiant floor heat under the floor and insulating joists w/R19. Basement has small area of RFH but is mostly unheated (any heat supplied is from gas HWH that runs radiant heating system). I live in mixed climate area near Baltimore, MD. My question is should I use some sort of moisture barrier in the subfloor system?
