Subfloor/underlay thickness for stn tile
First of many….
I am tiling a mudroom with marble 3 x 6 tiles. Subfloor is 1/2 inch osb. I have read Meehan’s book and am familiar with the deflection rules, but, i am not sure how you find out you are ok, until after you instill ?? this is new construcition, about 65 sq ft. what do i use as an underlayment to get a stiff enough floor ?? thanks very much in advance. I have about 1 3/8 inch of space up to the threshold, was thinkint of using a Dirtra membrane and also have a radiant heat element that needs to go down. Thanks very much !

Sounds like a job for wire and mud.
There is a deflection calculator at johnbridge.com You have to know the size of the floor joists, their spacing, and how far they span, which is going to be more than ther size of the room. Are you sure it's 1/2" osb? Or is there another layer under that?

5/8" bcx ply under thinset under 1/4" Hardi will get you really close before the radiant and tile add their 3/8".
Pretty sturdy, too.

"I have about 1 3/8 inch of space up to the threshold,"
Measured from where?
Is that from the top of the 1/2" sub-floor or from the top of the joist?
