The other day I got home from work and brought the mail in. While going through it, I found an offer from Fine Homebuilding. The offer was for a free trial subscription and so forth.
Well, the thing is… I have been a loyal subscriber for about 10 years now. So I was wondering if anyone else got the offer or why I might have gotten the offer?
Thanks,
Barney

Was it Free, free.
Or was it a subscribe for 2 years and the 3rd is free? Or some similar "come on".
To be honest, I tossed it already. But I remember it described what a wonderful magazine full of great information FHB is. Then it asked if I wanted to try a "trial" subscription.
And I know they already cashed my check for my renewal. LOL!!
You probably got an offer to subscribe and if you didn't like the first issue you could cancel with no obligation...so the first issue is free if you cancel.
You got the card because you were on some mailing list that Taunton purchased. I don't believe any attempt is made to remove current subscribers from the mailing. I suppose it is cheaper just to send the cards.

Another day, another tool.
Thanks for the insight. I appreciate it. Now, I wonder where they got my name from. LOL!!
Those darn mailing databases.
"Now, I wonder where they got my name from."It is possible to trace that kind of thing by always using alternate names whenever you give anyone your name. For example, I might give Rich Beckman, Rich C. Beckman, Richard Beckman, Richard C. Beckman, R.C. Beckman, etc. Then when junk mail comes, you know which mailing list it came from.I've never been organised enough to do this, but I wish I had.Rich BeckmanAnother day, another tool.
Hmm, glad to see you're reserving use of the "Rick..." variants for me. :D (Though would you believe that at my bank, there's another "Richard Beckman" and I have to use my middle initial to distinguish myself? They didn't tell me that until I signed up for everything completely... Had I known, I would have just used "Rick"!)
"Hmm, glad to see you're reserving use of the "Rick..." variants for me."What are Dad's for?? Besides, you can always append "Jr." to whatever variation. How'd you dig up this old thread? Looking for this:http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=100120.1?????

How did I dig it up? Well, searching on your name, of course... I think. Maybe I searched for my name. I don't know. And yes, I could use Jr., but there are some places that put up a fuss when I try to use it. If I recall correctly, it took asking two people when I first got my license if the "Jr." could be on there. The first lady seemed convinced the state no longer used suffixes.
Number of years back when living down south I'd made a trip back north and got an invite to the wedding of a faroff cousin I'd never met.
I had to go just to meet the guy as we both carried the same first and last names. And my last name has two z's in it and is so uncommon that if you have that last name we are definitely related.
So I kept the wedding brochure and when returning to the south passed it around to friends with the story that I'd gotten married to an old school acquaintance back home.
heh heh Milked that one for weeks before the truth was known. I was on a number of sh!t lists for quite a while after that one.
