My tenant is reporting a sulfur smell in the water from the master shower……only that one shower. (There are 3) Does not occur in either of the master sinks. Says it is so strong that he smells after a shower and it permeates his towels. I ck’d it by running both hot and cold water together and each separately but got no smell. When I later spoke w/ him to report finding no odor he asked if I ran the water for at least 7-8 min. I had not. When I asked our plumber if he had any ideas he said he’d never heard such a thing. Other than suggestiing our tenant shower for 6 mins or less does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hydrogen sulfide gas produces an offensive "rotten egg" or "sulfur water" odor and taste in the water. In some cases, the odor may be noticeable only when the water is initially turned on or when hot water is run. Heat forces the gas into the air which may cause the odor to be especially offensive in a shower. Occasionally, a hot water heater is a source of hydrogen sulfide odor. The magnesium corrosion control rod present in many hot water heaters can chemically reduce naturally occurring sulfates to hydrogen sulfide.
On a well, aren't you?
Tell him to use the hot water more frequently, or get a tankless heater, or switch out the anode. Sometimes that'll work. Or get a smaller water heater.
