My roof is fairly steep (10:12), slippery (metal), and the wood stove chimney is 9′ beyond the roof. I don’t like the idea of getting up there to sweep it.
I’ve heard that you can disconnect the chimney at a slip joint above the stove (yes, I installed such a joint), move the stove aside, spread a big old blanket or plastic sheet to catch the soot, and stuff in a chimney brush one section at a time. Anyone done this?
Thanks,
Scott.

well soot falls then ,billows up like a black atomic cloud,
dont ask but I know this for certain, every chimney
sweep I have known will try to clean a flue out from
the top if possable but there are times when it is better
to do it from the bottom, I isolate the chiminey from the
room , rig up a shopvac with drywall filter to the enclosure
so all soot dosnt escape into the room then go at it. I also
use a good resparator and disposable coveralls and eye
protection, its just a filthy azz job from below, but can be done.
Better than falling off a roof I reckon but not by much.
That's a great reply, and it sounds like you speak from experience. Thanks.
