I should of known this would happen. I've had my 14v for a year or so, then I bought a 12v. I leave to go get something and when I come back the guys have the 12v in the 14v gun and the batteries are in the wrong chargers. I know the charger thing won't work but what about the guns? Dave
*I doubt that the battery would fit, but that depends on the model. More to the point, you would probably eventually fry the motor on the 14.4 volt drill. Its a long story, but electric motors use less current when they are turning at the rated speed due to something called back EMF (the motor also works as a generator). 12 volts will result in the motor turning slower, and more current going through and therefore more heat. The same thing happens, by the way if you use an underrated extension cord (e.g. 16 gauge) on a power tool. I wouldn't try it unless I was desperate.
*I was told by the Panasonic rep at a woodworking show that their 15.6 volt drill will run off their 12 volt batteries without problems- the 15.6 v battery won't fit into the 12v drill.
*My makita rep says the same thing. If the battery fits it will work in the tool. Most chargers nowadays charge all voltages. I don't believe Nimh charges are cross compatible with Nicad.
*Thanks guys , The batteries must be compatable with both guns since they fit .They are both Makita's. Dave
