Couldn't resist trying the test. My results were good news/bad news. The good news was that I did pretty well for a non-tradesman. The bad news was that I missed the most questions in the electrical section, which is what I'm currently trying to get done in my shop!

As you only had a little trouble with the 'Electrical' section, a quick visit to our Message Board or a short run through our tip of the day is all we would suggest.

NACHI is relatively new and I'm sort of embarrased by it.
A few years ago PA passsed a law saying that to do home inspections you had to belong to a 'national HI trade association which has a testing requirment' or words to that effect
A fellow in PA with a somewhat, ahh, interesting past, floating aound various areas of the RE industry, came up with NACHI and found a few folks from around the country to climb aboard.
I had my then 14 year old daughter with no interest whatsoever in construction (but who is pretty bright) take the test. I had to define a few things for her, but did so to not give her any answers. She missed passing by only a couple of questions.
NACHI seems to have gained some recognition since then, and it does have some good stuff on its web site.
I don't know about yours, but my church isn't a hotel for the holy, it's a hospital for sinners

This is scary. I got a score of 87 and took less than half the allotted time. I have never seen a US building code. I know very little about HVAC and electrical and still got less than 30% of those questions wrong. Then I was able to quickly pass through the Code of Ethics obstacle course without having read it at all. So in other words, it aint hard to get through this outfit's standards. I'm nowhere near qualified to be a home inspector but right now the only thing stopping me is the $289 reg fee. Looks about like one of those PhDs you can buy online for $99.
WallyLignum est bonum.
I thought it was a physic test because it kept bouncing me back to the first question, and I started getting pissed(lol)
Ended up getting a 90,it only gave me118 out of the 120 questions though?

Well -- i got 10% into it then noticed how many problems there were. Some of teh problems are pretty silly. Others (i know nothing about boilers) i had to guess.

Nice! An average of 6.6 seconds a question! (Must have a cable)
Geez! Maybe I shouldn't have started this. I think I have the lowest score!
God must of gave me better looks to compensate. No wonder I'm so handsome!___________________________________________

I can't imagine any of the regular posters here, not being able to pass that test. A lot of it is simply common sense, and the rest is experience and a little bit luck. I just did it for fun 'cause I like that kinda stuff.
Not that I'm paying $289 to be a "Certified Home Inspector". I used to work for a company that did occasional home inspections for a couple local realtors, and there's nothing quite like a pi$$ed off homeowner taking you to task for "finding" problems in their house. They think we created the problems. Thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick to engineering.
beat me by 3...hmmm. I think that's in the margin of error ;)

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
that was fun, i guess i need to study up on my HVAC stuff. RZ
