I am planning to build a tall pull-out pantry to fit a space about 12″ wide and 7′ tall. It will be counter depth (25″) and will need to pull out nearly that full distance. I will access the goods from just one side (the other side will be against a wall that is currently finished sheetrock. The pantry will need to carry a lot of weight (liquids, canned goods, etc).
I’m looking for suggestions on hardware to use that will slide or roll easily, will carry the weight, and will keep the whole contraption from wandering off course. I have considered wheels/casters on the bottom and heavy-duty drawer slides on the top, possibly with a guide or two on the side to keep the pantry referenced to the wall (so it doesn’t creep off course over time.
I’d appreciate any advice, including pointing to off the shelf solutions if you know of any. Thanks.

I have done quite a few of just what you described- what I have found to work best is a pair of accuride #9301 slides at the bottom of the unit & a single accuride #3832 at the top to keep everything lined up.
the 9301 slides are rated at like 500 lbs, & there are "platform brackets" available to make many different installation applications.
E.B. Bradley Co. is where I get my hardware, their website shows what is avaiable.
hope this helps...

Are the Accuride slides detachable? There was another thread where someone was looking for such a thing and I mentioned these drawer slides, but I didn't know if the drawer could then be completely removed.
the 9301 is not detatchable- to get around that I have attached the slides to a sub base that I screw to the bottom of the pullout unit- still not as quick as a detatchable slide, but actually easier to install/remove...

When you get the 9301's there are two bottom slides and one top slide that detaches with a lever lock. The two bottm slides have to be screwed to a false bottom that screws to the bottom of the slide box.
You can also use Rockler #91968 or 91976...
I've been planning something similar
A quick web search turned up 9301 accurides at $100 / pr
the Lee Valley setup is half the price.
Wire units are cool too http://www.knapeandvogt.com/Pantry_Units.html?page=products.3.152

Thanks for the quick advice from all. The Lee Valley looks great but only has a 16" travel. I'd like to get as close to full extension (25") as possible. The accuride has 22" and 24" versions. Looks like the way to go.
Again, thanks for the quick turnaround and the solid advice.

Go to http://www.rockler.com and look for the 9301 Accuride HD full extension slides.
16-60" rated to 500 lbs. Used seven sets so far. No problems.
Reid Supply has them also--

Just got done with a 14" by 66" by 28" deep ammo pantry made out of solid red and white oak. The ammo and other goods are only accessed from the right hand side, as the left hand side is against the wall. The 9301 are great but are non- disconnect so definately listen to Gbwood as he has obviously got it down to a science, I did something similar but not as bomber, and might go back and do what he described.
Being able to "disconnect" the pantry from the cab-body is the way to go for any future maintenance. Thanks gb-wood and good luck on your pantry,
John
I am planning a similar pantry for our new house and thinking of using barn door hardware with a track on the ceiling. Anyone tried this?
