I see you posted this question twice--that may kind of muck things up. From the little I understand, you just need to make sure the "tar" you use to patch the leak is compatible with the stuff already on the roof.
My answer will at least push your question up near the top so others can see it and answer.
The worst thing you can do is try to fix it yourself, IMO. When I was doing roof work I found that whenever the HO ( or maint team on the school, hospital, whatever) tried to used some product for repair they only accomplished theee things.
They made the leak harder for me to diagnose, find, and repair, adding to their cost
They generally slowed the leak rather than fixing it, leading them to believe that they did have ti fixed because the water no longer poured in, but the slow leak continued and allowed rot to set in while they continued life in the belief that the repair ws OK. This circumstance only postponed the necessary work.
Findinmg and repairing leaks in a BUR gravel roof is a skill set equivalent to doing a cap on a broken tooth and the consequences for improperly doing either can be very ugly.
Find a pro to take care of this for you. Only if you are three or four hours travel from a qualified roofer would I advise you what to do, and then only after you describe the symptoms and signs more fully

What was the third accomplishment? I only see two ...
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
I didn't use Fink's bullets properly I see, combning my paragraphes in a disorganized manner.1 - They made the leak harder for me to diagnose, find, and repair2 - They addded to the cost of the real repair3 - They fooled themselves into thinking it was fixed and spread rot instead#1 is what bothered me

rot is bad, but I never lose sleep over owner induced problems when it stays on their own house. There are a lot of HO DIY things a person can do and not get in too much trouble or cost themselves too much for errors, but fixing leaks in flat roofs is not one of them.

What if you're the homeowner?Birth, school, work, death.....................
That's a hard hypothetical to answer, since I am an owner, but I fix my leaks and I am able to be sure it is done right so I don't have rot. This is like me asking you, "What if you wanted a copper roof on your house" Right?you seem to be asking what if I am an HO without skills to fisx this problem??? I already ansered that one. Get a pro.Am I missing something?

I'm assuming you may be like me in regards to your own home. I like to do every thing myself, but my skill level varies from project to project.
I also have a hard time finishing my home projects. One "for instance" is my deck. Alsmost had it finished and then my wife decided she want's a large part of it covered. It'll take me a year or so to think over how to do it. Another year or so to work out the bugs in my design. Then I'll buy materials and suddenly get too busy to work on it for another six months. Birth, school, work, death.....................
I still have to get over my frustration to get my porch roof on.it was in the original design, but then she decided she didn't want it.OK says I, as long as you want to shovel the snow off the porch come winter.be glad to says she
untril she does this fora couple winters,it becomes paramontSo I get the permit to cover it up and all the framing materials, then she changes her mind again - the framing materials get used elsewhere, the permit expires. Two years ago, she is now totally tired of shoveling that deck offbut darlin'...
I ain't in the mood anymore!

What Piffin said.
I spent far more time on built-up roofs than I am proud of. He is telling you the truth, word for word.
Sometimes these are not easy roofs to repair properly.
