Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of installing tarpaper strips at window / door openings prior to installation? And is it really needed if you already have tyvek applied? Thanks Shotsy

Yes you need the tarpaper it helps prevents water seepage, installed with a shim or section of clapboard you create a slope back to the exterior of the house for the water to drain. When I was building the last house I caught the framers installing my Anderson 400 series windows with no tarpaper, I picked the Anderson installation instructions off the ground and read them. I then walked ovet to the framer and told him if he wanted to get paid he was going to remove every single window and install as per the manufacturer's instructions because not using tarpaper VOIDED the 20 year warranty!!!!!!
