New product report – for me anyhow.
Used ‘TEKS’ self drilling and tapping fasteners today to attach wood onto steel.
The steel was only 1/8″ thick. I pre-drilled the wood, then fired in the TEKS without any trouble at all, using either a corded 1/2″ VS drill or a cordless 12V.
The fastener’s drilling point poked through and was still sharp, so it could have drilled into thicker steel; mfg. says up to 1/2″.

1/8" metal would be a #2 TEK... 1/2" would be a #5 and priced accordingly...
for thru wood and into metal there is a TEK point screw with a type F barrel silt just above the teck point and clearence cutters fot the wood that break off when they contact the metal just avove the type F...
major labor saving...

Thanks.
Now I see this is an ITW/Buildex product. Nice when a product performs up to expectations. I have so often been disappointed with their TAPCON products...maybe because I don't know how to use them properly.
I pre-drilled for these #4 TEK because the large head needed to be countersunk by approx. 1/2" in order for the self-tapping threads to engage the steel.
#4 is 3/8" steel...
see if this helps... point types... or this one for more....
tapcons probs ya say...
