I will be using the vacant garage to store materials and also for some work while I renovate a house. Possibly using the space to paint trim and cabinets. What can I use to protect the floor? Something that is reasonable cost but durable. I had thought about 1/4″ luan plywood, with duct taped seams. Sheets of masonite? 6 mil visqueen is too slippery, 30# felt is too messy.
Do it right, or do it twice.

A builder I did parquet floors for in Oz had just about the perfect material.
It was a plastic foam, about 1/8" thick and slightly tacky on one face (about like masking tape or Post-It notes)
It was made for underlay for floating floor and came in about 8' wide rolls. He just rolled it out on the floor as soon as the last coat was dry and I never had a single call-back for a repair to any of his sites.
