I am at a loss as to how to attractively terminate the ends of a wall railing. The lumber yard suggested a simple mitered return to the wall, but I don’t like the sharp corner look. No one makes a curved 90 degree bend for this railing style. I’ve even considered making a mitered return out of several “pie shaped” pieces to smooth out the transition. Will this look silly? Any other suggestions?

Instead of a 90 degree return you could use a 45 degree return. Cut the rail and the return each at 22.5, then cut the return at 45 where it meets the wall.
