About six months ago I was building a new porch deck and had a few new treated 2×6’s left over. I just threw them on the ground next to my scrap. Today I noticed that they where very nearly cut through by termites! None of the other wood had any infestation. I am pretty disgusted that treated wood which is so hazardous to your health that the EPA regulates, became so tasty for the little buggers to dine on. In case you are wondering I live near Houston Texas.

Hilarious... so it rots galvanized nails in a year or two and termites love it! I guess it is a slow killer of termites... lots of dead termites and no freakin deck! Perfect.
Thanks for the heads up mud.... I'll tell my guys to put on termite shields in the south.

Probably a case of poor treatment of the wood by a Lowes vendor.
Who made the wood?
Our state termite regulator in so carolina has slides of poorly treated "Lowes bought" treated wood where the termites have eaten it.
worse in big beams 6x6 etc - center is sometimes not treated bugs climb up the center
Read closely......the descriptions for treated lumber do not say "Termite Proof"....the treated wood is supposed to "resists insect invasion". Check it out for your lumber!
Twenty years ago I installed a 1/4 mile of fence between my 110 acres and the county golf club....cyclone fence on .40 landscape timber @ 10' O.C.(150 total LST's.).
Five or so years later i found a post had fallen over in the fence line....replaced it...but in looking at the remnants it was riddled with termites. Checked the pile of extra posts in the barn yard....most were well eaten.
Called the rep, cause I sold them to myself and it was my lumberyard.....he politely read the literature to me........Learn something new every day!
