About 10 years ago, we put a new terne metal roof on our back porch. We used the steel manufacturer’s (Follansbee Steel) paint. It was a linseed oil paint (very slow drying but it has held up well). However, with a southern exposure, the paint on the roof has a faded and could use another coat. Yesterday, I called Follansbee and they say they no longer sell the oil-based paint (only a water-base acrylic). I suspect the change had to do with EPA regulations rather than improved performance. In any case, I was wondering if anyone out there has tried the new acrylic paint. Did you use it over the old linseed oil paint? Did you use their acrylic primer? Were there any problems with adhesion? Thank you for any comments you might have.
