I know someone knows this out there, I am going to be on a job to re-do 2 office’s, [paint, stain ,carpet , counter-tops etc.] I’m there to be the expert , but the problem is I know carpentry, so not to sound like a ”nit-wit” to test to see if the paint on the walls are oil based or latex , what is the best route I heard rubbing alcohol on a small area , but what are the results on that?
Thanks from a”half-wit”

Denatured alcohol does the trick. Wipe the paint with a rag dampened with the alcohol. If some of the paint comes off, you have latex.

And upon learning that, I've taken to giving my brushes a final rinse with denatured alchohol. It really helps to get out that last little bit of paint that gest stuck up by the ferrule.
Well, actually, it's the penultimate rinse because the real final rinse is very warm water to try and get the bristles back in shape.

You givin' me mad props? Why, thank you!
The cleaning brushes one I knew about, and yeah it works real well. I do my final cleaning with soap. Get a good lather going, then rinse with cold. If the bristles need straightened out I soak them in HOT water for a minute or so, works sort of like a steam iron.
What I didn't know is that alcohol will not disolve oil based paints. Or is it just that it's more difficult to disolve them?~ Ted W ~

In my experience, alcohol has no noticeable effect on oil-based paints. Either when dry or when cleaning brushes.
