I’ve got a textured ceiling. Its not the typical popcorn style, it looks more like outside stucco-type. The previous owners had a leak with a skylight, and now I want to scrape away the damage, re-fill the hole, patch it, and try to match it as close as possible with the rest of the ceiling.
The damaged area is about 6 inches long by 2 inches.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Matching any texture takes a lot of skill and a lot more luck.
If it has not been painted, you can wet it and it will peel off very easily. If it has been painted, use a drywall taping knife, a small one, and just scrape it off.
There are a couple of textures available. One is a dry powder that you mix with paint, and it looks like coarse sand. It is available in fine, medium, and coarse. There are also small aerosol cans of spray texture that look very similar. If you do the spray job, be sure to follow the directions. It says to protect areas that you don't want to spray ... protect everything in sight, including your hair. And the can only has about 5 sedonds of spray time, so use a very light touch. Home Depot and Lowes have these products in the paint dept.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
