Looked at a job today that a prior owner had done before selling this house .
What a waste of good copper !

Walter, I have seen some poor jobs, but.....
I think I could do better that that!!!
I think you could too .
Walter,
I wonder where they learned. (or did not learn.)
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
It's a shame someone paid this person to do such shoddy work .
After only 6 or 8 years a job that should have lasted for over 50 needs to be redone .
Best , Walter
In fact, I do know I can. Had a little experience doing some copper work on a church in S Syracuse years ago.
Walter,
First time I looked at those, I thought someone had smeared duct mastic all over the seams. Hard to believe that solder could be applied in such an, um, artistic manner!
And what's the story with the last slate in the valley, on the final shot. The half-gray, half-black one. Perhaps Billy Mays and his Mighty Slate Putty swung through town?
Looks like your talents are sorely needed there.
Best,
Steve

Steve,
It needs a face lift for sure . I'll be quoting to replace the metal and valley too , replacing a bunch of bad slates as well .
Best regards , Walter

<snort> ... oh, sorry ;o)
It would be interesting to know the story behind the reason why that particular contractor was chosen...
Did the homeowner pick someone at the top or low end of the bid range? Or, did they choose a supposedly qualified contractor that ripped of the customer?
In my experience, shoddy work is usually the result of picking the low bidder... or doing "just enough" work to give the place some pop to sell it (We don't want to spend any money because we are moving soon). In those situations, the homeowners get what they deserve... and/or the buyer gets screwed.
I guess it is a form of karma for some buyers- payback for the corners cut on the last home they "spruced up".
I don't know why this person was selected 'cause it was done for a prior owner .
Looked to me that they had better selling skills than craftsmanship to back it up . It took just as much time to " spooge " that solder around than it would have to have done it correctly .
If I wind up doing the work later this Fall , I'll post the " after " pictures.
Walter
>>>If I wind up doing the work later this Fall , I'll post the " after " pictures. Please do. With competition like that, you're in good shape.Scott.
Thanks Scott ,
I'll be quoting that project at the end of the week , so if it's a go I'll be sure to post some during and after pictures .
