I am interested in the small Thomas air compressor reviewed a year or so ago. It was billed as being extremely quiet. I mostly need my compressor for finish work, but will occaisionally use it for small framing jobs. Does anybody know if this little machine will handle a single framing gun?

Small pancake Sears is super quiet...and it will frame slowly...If you are a dedicated framer you would use a gas emglo for at least two guns shooting nails like machine guns...
I bought my little compresser after plugging a few and listening for myself...But I also own larger and larger compressers up to 65cfm for my 12" spike drivers and a lot of underwater demo gear...I also blow out water lines in pools, camps and sprinkler systems with the big one.
The thomas may be good but Sears is so much more convenient than specialty tool stores though we now have a Woodworkers Warehouse locally. They sell one of their small loud compressers with a hose and a finish gun on sale for a great price...Not for me but a fellow sub seems happy with all.

*Mike,Our company now has two of the little Thomas "Ultra". I'm not sure of the model #. They are wonderful, and regardless of the size and the single hot dog tank, they will keep up with a light duty framing gun.Ed. Williams
*I have had one for little over a year and it is great. I mostly use it for trim, but it can run a big paslode framer for spiking, but will lose out when sheathing. Also, it can do small underlayment jobs, or if you slow down bigger jobs, but you will have to slow down or wait. I love it because it is so light and east to carry. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
*MikeI saw that same article and decided to buy it as well. It is the one with the two motors, correct? Anyway, it is a great little unit. I mostly use it for trim, but occasionally use it to power my senco coil framing nailer. It keeps up much better than other small compressors, although you will have to take breaks when sheathing. One guy who was using my gun remarked, "Wow, that little compressor keeps up pretty good." The only downside is that is is very heavy to lug inside for a trim jobEric
*Forgot to mention this, but I had a hell of a time trying to locate one. Everyone was telling me that they would have to special order it at a cost of over 600. I called thomas and the lady said that price was B.S. She gave me the name of a place to check and I got it for $425 out the door.Eric

a few weeks ago I purchased a Master Fastener from wood workers warehouse, Trend lines.
It was really quit, I do alot of finish trim and cabinets.
for a 2" brad nail gun 50' flex hose and the compresser 3.2 gallon tank and only 12 amps. oiless piston type.
I hooked it up to an auxilary tank of 7 gallons and it would go a long time with out starting up again.
Look it up the price was right. on sale now for $239.
*for small framing jobs i use a paslode impulse framing gun, I'll never go back

The T617HD is a very good small compressor. The guy who said it was heavy must be talking about another compressor. It is very light and quiet which is why I bought one. I was able to get it for under $250.00. It keeps up with my Senco sfn30 finish gun when I rapidly nailing off baseboard and caseing, beyond that I can't say.
*Ross, you're correct. I have the Thomas Ultra, which is a twin-tank, l-o-u-d and heavy, built like a Deusenberg and about $400 US.It makes AIR, big time... and will feed two guns with no problem.
