Yeah, I noticed their page header. Humongous title THE MAN STORE with a babe in the lower-right turned in profile. Cute. Does she come as a bonus for large orders...?
Hey, Bill--while I was there I checked their listings for extension cords, looking for some SJOW cords to replace the few cräppy orange plastic ones I've still got. They had some but with a designation I don't know: SJEOOW or something pretty similar to that.
Is that a real rubber-jacketed cord like SJOW, or some kind of plastic 'rated' for cold-weather use (I've never met a plastic cord yet which doesn't fight with me at -30º)? You're a real live sparky; you oughta know stuff like that, LOL.

"You're a real live sparky; you oughta know stuff like that, LOL"Not really. My background is in electrical engineerign, but for with controls and computers that do the controlling. My electrical work is mostly DIY. But I know enough how to find most of what I need in the codes, etc. I really can't be too specific on this. They are both in the usage catagory, hard usage, damp areas, outdoors.SJOW has thermoset wire insulation and oil resistant thermoset outer covering.SJEOOW has oil resistant thermoplastic eslastomer insulation and covering.I am not sure, but I think that those are general terms and different materials might be used by different manufactures.Carol's catalog shows both in extension cords. The SJOW is their Froghide Ultra Flex, with EPDM wire insulation, Geen CPE outter covering. -40C to 90CThey have 3 different lines of SJEOOWOutdoor power cable.
Blue (#14) or Yellow (#12) TPE outter jacket. -40C to 60C, PVC wire insulation. All Weather Extension Cords.
Blue TPE outter jacket. -50C to 105C remains flexable to -50cAnd Hi visability all weather. Same as above, but yellow and #10 wire. Here you can see how different companies define SJOWhttp://www.awcwire.com/ProductSpec.aspx?id=Portable-Cord-SJOW

Thanks for that. It's as I suspected, the SJEOOW has a plastic outer jacket, so no matter what the label says, it's gonna fight with me when I try to coil it up at -20 or -30.
I have enough arguments with people; I ain't got time to argue with extension cords, LOL.
Nutz. I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy another $200 roll of SJOW and some bomb-proof Hubbel plug ends and make my own....
