Some of you may remember that about a month ago, I posted a thread about where all the money being donated to charity was to go. My question then was what the various charities were going to do with the money since none of them had, at the time, any plan other than that it was “going to the victims of the September 11th WTC attack.
Well, here’s a little update from the ground zero perspective. The amount of money given to charity thus far is astronomical and continues to grow. Great, right? Well, the only help being offered to non-uniformed victims families that I know at the moment are minimal financial assistance with funeral expenses (with massive applications requiring documentary evidence) and the red cross teams feeding the workers. That’s all, folks.
Business that have been destroyed can register with FEMA and are sent packets for Small Business Administration loans, which most won’t do because loans have to be repaid and there is no clue whether these business will ever be able to reopen or make up for the lost time. Nothing else. There is no information from any of these charities, and no one is getting anything. People have had no income, no support since 9/11. There is nothing available and nothing being given out.
So where is all this money? I don’t know but it surely hasn’t gone to the victims. This may well end up being the most egregious charity boondoggle of all time, and these charities may well end up being the best endowed in history. But the victims receive nothing.
