Jack,
Were you struggling with the login process over the weekend? There were problems with something I put on the old site which was supposed to automatically direct people to this new site. It wasn’t working properly and instead was getting people trying to login involved in a crazy spiral of login and Access Denied messages.
But, it looks like you made it here now. Be sure to update all your browser bookmarks to the new site – webx.taunton.com.
Also, Jack based on me seeing your name and 2nd line of information (lakeside… on the mountain..) up with your posts, it looks like you did manage to login successfully.

Hello Andrew,
Unfortunately, this look is what the software calls the stripped down version. This look, warts and all, is actually the default for the software. The only graphic element we changed from the default is the gold and white color of the buttons - which we are going to make more contrasty.
The blue links can be changed in the your browser, but that's the default for the software and pretty much what is seen most out on the web so we left the links blue.
The software starts with the graphics and then you have to customize it to get rid of the graphics.
We were having such problems with speed recently that we wanted to remove as much of the customization as we could get away with and go back to the bare bones software as much as possible.
The speed is better now it seems, so we'll definitely revisit some of those customization issues. Hopefully, we can reach a happy medium.

"Yurpie"? I don't think I've ever heard that one before. My question is how come when you want to reply to someone's post and you click on reply, your reply doesn't end up under the persons post you want to reply to? Am I the only one with this problem? MDM.
*David; you're all over the place right now, but maybe you'll check back here. The one request I have is for the 'outline' to show all messages as a thread; showing what is a reply to which post, if I'm making myself clear. I know you can do this once you've logged in (but I only know that from seeing a reply to someone else's question), but most of the time I don't login, and the whole context is lost if you can't see what are replies and what aren't. Two cents.

Mad Dog,
You need to change a Preference setting. Click the Preference button on the Toolbar, scroll down a bit and uncheck the "Use site preferences for viewing discussions" option and turn on the "Prefer to view discussions as threaded messages" option.

Andrew, what does "yurpie" mean?
*Adrien - I've missed you! Go into your preferences by clicking the preference button at the top of this page, on the far right. Go down to Settings. See two boxes: one is "Prefer to View Discussions as Threaded Messages". Click it. Go to bottom of page. Click "Set Preference" button. Done. You can now see and post things as threads.

Hi Adrian,
Now that's one I can do. It should be all set now.
Once anyone logs in, they still can choose their own setting in the Preference panel, but now, before you sign in, when you click the Page icon to get the outline view, it will show as threaded messages.

CLS; you say the sweetest things. Busy, busy, busy, but I check in when I can.
David; that's great. Thanks for being so responsive to all the suggestions. The site seems consistently speedy, now, too, even in the middle of the day.
*You know, it's that kind of nauseated burp that comes periously close to hurling your cookies (net humor), and you get to revisit what lunch tasted like. Not a word so much as a "sounds like" expression... Think I got it from an old roommate with a bad diet.
*Sorry I asked - ;-) But I do appreciate the response. Always interested in adding to my vocabulary!
*Bitch, bitch, bitch! Suggest anyone so inclined find one of the threads regarding other favorite sites, other building sites, and go there. Obviously these people are working their asses off to make this work at NO cost to the whineing parties. Joe H
*sysop and cls...thanks...I found the login button finally and have made it my new button for a speedy entry....Next idea....when the awful buttons are improved, you may want to increase the font size....thanks...I guess I'm happy with all again!near the stream,aj
*Need a name for sysop ... Ruth + Larry + David = Rulavid?

*Joe H.:Here's another way to look at it... See that little box at the top of the page? That's called an advertisement! The advertiser pays to have that banner up there. And I'll bet you a dollar that the cost of that advertisement is based on the popularity of the site. Did you know that some existing URLs are sold off based on the # of hits for big bucks!? Not that Taunton would sell their URL but know that they haven't put this site out on the WWW entirely as a gesture of charity. As a matter of fact, you could look at it as the people who frequent this site are i providing a service to Taunton. Especially since some of the postings are also printed i (and sold) in the $7 magazine. The people like AJ who i answer the posted questions are the most valuable. For example, I recently visited a forum for motorcycle mechanical issues. Well guess what?? It's all questions, with no answers!! As you can guess, it's not a very popular forum!Of course, everything I just said contradicts at least one of my postings in the past (my response to wining about the lack of a spell checker) but I too am getting a little disgruntled by the bickering, and the bla, bla, bla, and I too seem to have much less time for BT these days. Think about it!MattPS: The increase in speed is phenomenal, and if not for the vent/novent discussions, we wouldn't even need a "view all messages" button - i.e.: seeing all postings in a thread from the get go could i almost work!
*Sysop....Happy days are hear again!!!!....The site is working so well that I went to web crossing's site to see how to buy stock in the company....Seems it is still pre-ipo....email me if they is a way to get in on there stock pre-ipo!!!near the fast and furious stream,ajps...thanks for the kind words posted!!!!

AJ,
I'll let you know, but you'll have to get in line behind me. They have been extremely helpful in getting us over to this new site and in troubleshooting some of our problems.
They also have some pretty big hitters that use their software - NY Times, CNN, Oprah. And hey, if it's good enough for Oprah, well it's....

*I wpould like to hear from anyone who has done cabinet re-facing. I am interested in getting acquainted with it. I am a Carpenter for 26 years . I bought Herrick Kimble's book. It is a good place to start, not having ever done a re-face.Is it something you can make a decent living from?I live in a large suburban area in S.E. Pennsylvania. It seems to me there would be a good market for this here. The burbs are of all different building eras.

Well....one change too many for me....I may return if I can figure out how to enjoy this last change but I think for now I am out of here.
*OK....I made some changes in my preferences and the board is a bit better now....but still do not see the log in button....what's the easiest method these days....We need a Breaktime for Dummies book
*jack, as soon as the board comes up look all the way to the right. It's on of the yellow buttons at the top of the page.

*All these buttons and other graphic crud make me a bit yurpie. What's wrong with good old FAST text links? Also, I agree with Adrianne and go further: from a graphic design standpoint this look is major faux pas -- graphic warts and random color scheme (pastels, saturated red and blue? picture a 70's bathroom done this way, and why we don't do them now). I just feel confused, and a bit too curmudgeonly to figure it all out ... again. Sigh.Simple is good. Please, tone it down, focus on communication and not what the software "can" do.
