Had a vivid reminder on what you’d call fire safety. Specifically propane heaters, or the kerosene kind so many of us use. Dropped on by the house today to pick up a couple of things, and couldn’t get within 2 blocks. Had to walk home. Two doors down the guy was wanting to do some work in his garage but hey, it’s like 15 degrees in there, so he lit the burner and went to pick up stuff at the store while it heated up. Well, it lit the garage up. The garage door basically disintegrated. It’s not on the street or in the lawn. It just isn’t there anymore. The roof now sags a good couple of feet over the garage, everything on that side of the house is toothpicks standing up. Some of the brick work blew off the side of the house, the glass on the car in the driveway shattered from the heat and the paint boiled. Good part is nobody got hurt, save for the family dog which, true to instinct, went and hid where it thought things were safe and died. If I’m making a point at all, its that I don’t think I’m going to leave those things running if I’m not standing somewhere nearby from now on.

Bummer about the dog. Your post makes a good point. Lets be careful out there.
Talk to Bear..he has good ideas for shop heaters. seems we discussed this here before. MAybe it was Piff and me that talked about wood burning heaters in a shop....I have a Vermont casting wood/coal heater and another old antique one and would love to put it in my new shop to be, but wonder how it might be made safe if possible. Certainly dust collection units are a must but even so.....Any ideas?
Sorry bought hat dog.Major bummer!
Be safe

Scroll to Eyewitness news video and then Lafayette House Explosion.
This was the result of a gas line hit by a construction crew down the street. The fire dept is already there because this is the second house to explode.
