Start with a story-and-a-half bungalow, and build up to gain more space.
Attached are a couple views showing the shape of the bungalow, which has a footprint of about 1200 square feet. Its half-story upper is only on the main part of the house . . . the rear bump is one story.
Built about 85 years ago, this house sits adjacent a big old two-and-a-half story “manor,” that predates it by a few years. The little one was built to house the staff for the family that occupied the big one. The manor house has the same half-hipped roof as the little bungalow.
The desire now is to take the bungalow, decapitate it, including the half-story walls, and add a full story out to the building lines, replacing the present 600 sf upper with one at 1200 sf.
A lot of money for 600 sf of addition, but that is what the owner wants.
The challenge is the new roof, and how it should look, so as to not clash with the manor house next to it.

Seeing house next door would help. What does "dash" mean?
bump
Why do you keep bumping?Send us a pic of the two houses, then we can visualize.
It's what Taunton pays him to do.
His title is "Bumper".
I was bumping because Gene had a response, has been online for a number of days since then, and still has failed to respond to the poster's question.
Seems kind of an ignorant thing to do to start a thread asking an opinion and then not stop back or provide a way to follow up.
I wanted to give Gene an opportunity to explain and redeem himself before he goes into the doghouse.
