We stated putting the second layer of subfloor down today, 1/2 over 3/4 t&g.
Glued and screwed and nailed to the joists…
Anyway… 1-1/8 is the thickest subfloor commonly available that I know of, even though I’ve never seen it in person,(backwoods of IL).
Do you suppose that the 3/4+1/2 sandwich is as stiff, stiffer, or way inferior to the 1-1/8 product?
Disregarding Advantech vs. 5 layer ply yada yada…
I was really surprised how much the top layer pulle ddown as I was screwing between the joists after the boys had already nailed it.
On another track, does anybody have a dura-spin gun that likes it?

I have used 1-1/8" T&G OSB, it is very stiff. But not a whole lot more than the wood and glue sammich you have made. With the joints staggered on each layer screwed down it makes for a strong floor.
On your side track question I own 2 Quik Drive screw guns and really like them. I have no experience the Duraspin. I am tall by most standards and the stand up extension for it has made my back/knees hurt alot less.
I have a dura spin that I have not used yet.
Why? do you not like yours?
The one I have borrowed is an older one 14.4, although it has not had much use, the screws flip out crooked part of the time, and the batteries don't last long enough to set very many screws, and the sheathing screws strip to easy, either the head or the wood on about 30%.They are great for drywall, but I am unimpressed for the flooring job.disclaimer...I may not be smart enough to get it adjusted for the subfloor job, so I just went back to my drill, and dare I say what screws I was using? ;)A medium to large guy named Alan, not an ambiguous female....NOT that there is anything wrong with that.
I prefer the 1 1/8 (Advantech of course) incredibly stiff and stable. I have tried the Dura spin-brought it back. I have the Quik Drive-great tool. I also tried the Hilti version-no luck.

strength is about same.
That is really not the reason for doing it the two different ways though.
For one thing, the 1/2" is not subfloor - it is underlayment and the reason for it is elevation adjustments and for smoothness under certain finish floors like vinyl.
The two ply method you used is also much esier for us wimps.
The 1-1/8 is a step saver and has better massing for something like apartments for prevention of fire spread and for sound absorption, and where all carpet floors preclude need for smoothest surface on top.
