I’m using some beefy steel to hold a big beam to a post
in an exterior wall. (We take earthquakes seriously here.)
This steel makes a nasty thermal bridge right through the wall.
The beam and steel are exposed to the house interior.
Any ideas how to solve this?
I’d hate to “dress up” the beam to insulate the steel.

Hi Paul
If you don't like the idea of insulating the beam on the interior because of asthetics, maybe you could do the opposite and insulate the beam on the outside of your home and bring the mass indoors.
