   *Butch that sounds like a hell of a door you have there. With out knowing more my guess is that you need a mortise lock. Go to the yellow pages and get a few names for lock stores in your area. Tell them that you need a mortise lock . We like to use Best Locks for both commerical and home owners.

   *Most quality locksets can be adapted to thick doors; they just need longer connector thingies (OK, I'm not exactly a locksmith) to attach the two knobs to the latch or deadbolt inbetween. Medeco, for one, makes the extra part to adapt its Maxum deadbolts (a very nice lock, by the way). I think Schlage could help you out too.You can go the mortise route, but unless you have the router jig it could be a bit scary on a big (expensive???) door. Cylinder bores are easier.-- ad

   I think you want a mortise box. In a door that thick, it actually would be easier to install. I'd check out several of the door lock hardware ads in the back of FHB. I've ordered my Baldwin locksets from Clement with great service and prices, and I'm sure Baldwin or any of the other supplirers are used to dealing with other than 1-3/4" doors.

   Butch, if it suits the style and period of the home, you might consider a rim lock. Ball & Ball makes some nice stuff. The installation is simple.

   I am trying to find a source for entry door hardware for a door that is 3" thick. Any ideas?
