thickness of concrete topping coat
Thanks All
My trowel skills are not good so when I placed the flat, nearly level concrete floor of my swim pool I was left with features which collect algae and are difficult to clean.
I looked for a self leveling pour down type product but none of the outfits I contacted would use their stuff under water, mildly salty water at that.
So I’m going to sacrifice pool depth and put down a topping coat of 3000PSI grout ready mix. adhesive solution over the existing surface first.
I can get a 1 yard transit mixer to the site for a thickness of 15/16″ or a 9 yard vehicle with however many yards are correct. They charge at 4 yds min.
What depth of topping coat should I be thinking about? Its a structural slab under there, 5″ thk with #4 bars 12″ oc both ways. I even thought of Jiffy Seal or some similar foundation damproofing product over the existing slab first , then the topping coat to prevent water loss when new cracks happen as a result of the earthquakes we get around here, Puna Hawaii.
Thank you very much for the advice

Can you not get Marlite there? That is the choice of the pool pros. Sorta like Vermiculite. Pearlite is also an add agent that trowels well.
I be thinking that in your neck of the beach, volcanic ash is easy to get?
