Rich, Here’s the story as of 3/09/2000
I convinced the police in West Orange, NJ to take a report of the
incident. They reviewed it and asked me to come in to swear a
complaint in court, which I did. That matter is now a criminal
process. The first appearance was postponed and the next first
appearance is March 21, 2000. The court personnel tell me that I do
not have to be there since it is now “State of New Jersey vs Boris.”
The March 21 appearance is, I believe, to plead to theft by deception.
My attorney sent them a collection letter that conformed to the
federal credit law. They called him and objected to his contact; he
told them, “Essentially, you took something that doesn’t belong to
you.” They said that they had to hire someone to fix my work. When
he pressed them to substantiate that claim and make an offer for
settlement, they did nothing. He’s called them and left messages but
they do not respond. Last week he filed a civil suit in Essex County
Superior Court.
I have asked a number of fellas to look over the details of the matter
and render woodworkers opinions which I could use in court. I have
a web page ready to load with links to photos and documents so you
can see all the details. I don’t want to bother you with that until and
unless the court case needs it.
Meanwhile, my millennium has turned from disaster to overload.
My work takes my mind off the rage I feel when I remember the
scene where they stole the carvings off my truck. Work is a
wonderful salve.
My very best to all who have followed this story.

Good luck.
*Ron,I don't know what's worse........The theives or the court systems.Best of luck my friend. We want to hear how it turns out.......which will probably be a year from now.Ed. Williams
*Bravo Ron, I think you did the right thing. On behalf of all the craftmen that this theif may just not steal from in the future...thank you. Small consolation for your losses, but I hope you gain large satisfaction when you see him squirm...It is my opinion that he has lost this battle. It will cost him more to defend himself against this one than he stole from you. (and he just may have to let you reclaim your work). Good Luck Ron,L
*Right on, Ron! You get 'em, you hear? I feel terrible--literally--when an injustice is commited. I feel worse when the crooks are allowed to skate away. I feel even worse when the matter of the fact involves dupicity. Many, myself included, sometimes let the fraud go unpunished because it's deemed not worthwhile to persue the matter. This tacitly tells the scamer he can continue such behavior. I am sick of it. The next "Boris" who double deals me will wind up as an example to every thief--actual or wannabe--who ever even thinks of crossing another person. You get 'em Ron.
*I'm amused that Ron's writing is sounding more and more like a lawyer's. :)-- my wife reminds me that you should demand (attorney, court) costs as well. Also, if the criminal conviction goes through it will provide preclusion in your civil suit -- that it, the defendant won't get a second chance to try to defend himself. You go get Boris, Bullwinkle!
*Ron seems more the Rocket J. type to me... keep at it Rocky.
*Andrew and George - Which "Ron" are you talking about ?
