Saw dreamcatchers post about better ID for BTers so everyone knows who’s a pro and who’s not. On the face of it, I see where he’s coming from. I would have liked to add my two cents, but the thread was “closed for posting”.
That’s the first time I’ve seen that.
Who closes the thread, author of post or monitor?

I don't speak to Luka, to many disappearances, I got kids.:)
I had a post in that thread, didn't think it was to caustic but who knows!
Closing a thread for posting has occurred before, not all that often but it does happen.

I read all the posts, 18 I think, and I thought it would have been a good disscusion. I didn't think anyone was out of line, heated debate should be encouraged.
sysop is the one who closes a thread, usually because its gotten out of hand, or has run its course
sometimes it's closed at a BTers request
"sometimes it's closed at a BTers request"That I can understand. Anyone else doing it, when the content seemed civil, I don't understand.
I've never seen that before...
BTW - I made a similar suggestion some time back and pretty much got the thumbs down from most people.
It's weird, this is the only forum I participate in. I like the democracy of the place, and than this happens. I've caught my share of slack from guys on this board, always because of a current events issue. I never give building advice as I don't think I'm qualified. You got questions about your back, I'm your man, but if you want to get answers for the best way to build this or that, ask someone more qualified.KevinPS I can also speak with authority on whiskey, beer and wine!
For the most part, I'm OK with the way things work here... and I'm making this up to an anomaly.
Everyone has something to contribute as long as they are strait forward about it.
BTW - I'm really glad I don't need any advice on my back....

I don't recall you mentioning it but the problem as I see it is how do you govern it!
I think its pretty easy(probably for you and I but not a newcomer) to tell who is BSing and who knows their stuff but I'm not sure that some symbol on our name would solve the problems? don't know for sure.
Probably get this thread censured by bringing the subject back up!

And anyways, there's guy's like me- licensed GC with a degree in architecture, who will PWI and say ridiculous stuff about things I clearly don't know. ;)
Someone usually sets us straight pretty quick, it seems.
Professional or not may not be the issue...

It's been a while since I made the suggestion so I really don't remember exactly what it was but it was along the line of making a few fields in the profile mandatory, like maybe "occupation" and "Location" and then also expanding the number of choices available in the occupation field. IIRC some people saw it an invasion on their privacy - like they didn't want to give out personal information... whatever...
I agree though that it's pretty easy to read between the lines with some people. Other people who post infrequently, it's a little harder to tell.
What I object to is when someone presents themselves as an authority when they are not. BTW - I'd rather trim my fingernails with a sawsall than shellac my hardwood floors.. :-)
The (should be) famous quote I read here was:
"There are posters and there are posers". Can't remember who said it....

See, there's the difference. You were proposing to make fields mandatrory, and the other guy was asking for options. I agree with you, but apparently the powers did not.
IMHO, the problem with the closed discussion was all related to the OP. It seemed to me that he came on prety harsh and somewhat elitiest."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
JD asked for it to be closed so I couldn't zing one back at him.
