I’m using tiger claw TC-3 with Timber Tech Cedar 5/4 decking. The TC-3 instructions claim that after the first few boards, you don’t need to drill pilot holes. But after trying to install a few boards, I’m still getting a lot of bounce. Has anyone any experience with this fastener and Timber Tech?
Also, I”m having a tough time maintaining an even gap at the butt ends, any suggestions?
Thanks –wayne

Used once in Trex.
Drilled every damn one of them.
Never again.

Okay, just finished the job with them, very very time consuming. Yes, I too had to drill every one, and I also discovered that each box contained fasteners that were one of two different sizes! I also found it difficult to get the exact gap I wanted between the planks. And I was never happy with the butt joint......
Thanks for responding.-Wayne
So after we washed the deck, I discovered a crack in the TT at one of the tiger claw points. Short of replacing the board, anyone have any suggestions for patching this? Picture attached.-Wayne
I finished a deck with Fiberon and Tiger Claw TC-3 this summer. Had to drill pilot holes on all - At it went much faster that way doing all by my self. Advice on the broken Trex is tough. It is easy to get out - just pick where you want the new piece and saw. use a metal cutting blade to cut through the tiger claw fasteners - The only thought is to face screw the replacement piece remembering to follow the mfg advice for butt joint support. I had to cut out a piece but it was at the edge where I could blend the face screwing
