I’ve got a small floor tile job to do that involves two transitions from tile to carpeting. I don’t do a lot of tile, so was wondering how best to handle this transition. One transition is in the middle of a pocket door. The other spot is in the hallway. Substrate is concrete. I bought one of those metal strips that you thinset to the floor and run the tile up against for a square edge, but was wondering if that was the best option. I’ve seen a 1 1/2″ strip of corian used, but it doesn’t seem right to me in this location. Also, how do you handle the carpet termination?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

help please!
Steve,
Nice to see you around. I don't know if this is helpful, but...

I don't have much experience with the specific situation and what little I have was too long ago for me to remember what I did!!

Another day, another tool.
Hi Rich,
Yes, that is helpful, thanks. I think I actually have the first one shown on that page, but i think the 4th one is what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
Steve
I was faced with the same problem with my tile to carpet transitions at doorways. What I ended up doing was to put multiple strips of 30lb builders felt down. I began with the first piece 30" bigger than the opening. I then added additional pieces reducing their size by 6" per layer. The result was a transition that was bumpless and totally unnoticeable.
