Hello. Thought you may be interested in this solution to our kitchen countertop problem. We had a badly scratched and bleached laminate top that need replacement. Although a simple galley style kitchen, the local laminate shop quoted $600 uninstalled.
So placing tile on the existing tops seemed a less expensive approach. Unfortunatley, the choice of tile edge is very limited and looked a bit “old fashioned.” An option was to “mix” the edging with a different field tile…or use a diiferent edging altogether. In this case we decided on brushed aluminum, cut and bent at the local sheet metal shop. Based on the advice rec’d from the shop owner, the aluminum was brushed with a scrubbing pad rather than steel wool.
Using tile provided design flexibilty, such as mixing different size or colors in the field. In this case we used ablack granite “cutting board” at the sink. The local gravestone company had a scrap pile of broken granite. We found a piece with 2 straight edges and 2 broken edges. From that we made a 1/8″ giberbd. template for cutting the tile.
