Trying to catch up on the latest trends for tile backers. I’m installing 12′ ceramic floor tiles. starting with 3/4″ ply subfloor over 16 oc. and would normally use 1/2″cement board. But no wait GP now has lightweight Denshield. has anyone used this for floor installs?

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

dens shield
I only am familiar with dens sheild being a gypsum product. I believe it is paperless drywall. It uses fiberglass instad of paper. I do remember reading about a new cement board product that replaced a manufacturers old product line. Its lighter and cuts easier. Is that what you are thinking of? If I was tileing a floor, I would use cement board and the schlueter deitra system. It creates a break between the moving subfloor of the house, and your tiled floor. The result is no grout cracks. Aledgedly, meaning I havent tiled a floor since the stuff came to the markey several years ago. BUT, when I do tile a floor again, thats what I will use.
I have used densheild products for exterior sheathing and interior shaft walls on commercial sites. I have not seen a Densheild product for a tile backer. If they have one it is most likely for vertical application only. The densglass products I've been around would not be hard enough tor a floor underlayment for tile. I have seen alot of cement board and cement fiberboard as a floor underlayment for tile over wood framing.
