I want to put a tile floor over an unheated concrete slab floor in our den. The adjacent floor is built up (hardwood), so I am considering putting a plywood subfloor down first, to make the floors level. Is this a good idea, and if so,what is the best way to attach the plywood to the floor (hilti gun and glue, or just hilt gun), and what is the best adhesive to use??
Thanks for the help!

I would think the concrete to be a perfect base. Couldn't you make a transition to the wood. Maybe tile on concrete would be a little cooler to the foot.
*Joinerookie, how thick of ply are you thinking of putting down? Maybe a thick mud bed would be a better idea? Or some thicker tile? Maybe radiant heat tubes and Gypcrete? Joe H
*I think like calvin does just make a nice transition from the tile to the hardwood
*The difference in my floor heights are almost 1", as the hardwod has a 5/8" exterior plywood substrate under it. That is why I think it would be best to try to match the subfloor levels prior to laying the new tile floor. I have never tiled before(nothing ventured, nothing gained). The room has forced air in it, plus a gas fireplace. I figured the wood will also make it warmer in the winter months.Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks!
*Any floor tile and thinset will be 5/8" or more, your threshold will be so close you won't notice. Your ply would have to be 1/4" or you will have a bump from the wood into the tile area. Joe H
