I wrote in before asking for advise about removing a 70’s vintage ceramic tile floor. I was concerned about asbestos after reading that it was used in old mastic. The grout was mortar based so I thought mortar or thinset was used to attach them to the floor. Yesterday I started scrapping the tiles off the floor and found that a cream colored glue was used to attach them to the floor. Is this mastic?

If the stuff doesn't seem to be cement-based then it's probably "mastic". Almost certain if it seems to be at all flexible. But that doesn't imply that it contains asbestos. Don't recall ever hearing of asbestos being used in ceramic tile mastic, just vinyl tile/sheet flooring mastic (though admittedly I've led a sheltered life).
