I’m helping my buddy get a new patio ready in time for a party he and his new wife are having in June.
We are going to place a 6 inch thick concrete slab with 6×6 wire about 15′ x 36′ on Tuesday. We plan on a few cuts about 1.5 inches as control joints and we plan on placing porcelain tile on the slab with colour match silicone as grout over the control joints.
Local tile supplier is recomending probond as the thin set.
How long after the pour can we start setting tile?
Any advice or ideas from those in Breaktime that have been there done that?
Have a good day

Sorry, here in the NE, seldom is tile installed outside. In your neck of the woods (great white north) you might want to consult a tile expert from your area for the best advice.

Good Luck with the patio, and include pics when complete.

look up Schluter-Ditra
Ditra is a separation layer for problem substrates. you could tile right over those joints
My local lumberyard sells a Canadian version of ditra, maybe I should use it. It probably can't hurt the install.

can you talk them into colored/stained concrete instead? Just a thought. Might be a lot easier/quicker/durable/
They definitely want porcelain tile, in fact they already have 600 square feet on site.

Like a . I thought you'd need 28 days for the slab to fully cure. I think your pushing it.
Concrete is not fully "cured" in 28 days.28 days is just the time when it reaches it's design streght. Apparently Hoover Dam is still "curing"..
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Hoover Dam is a bit thicker tho.
I'd say check out the Ditra site. They advertise for patios so they
should have some answers.
concrete reaches about 93 % of its strength in 28 days then cures indefinitely.
The concrete strength is not a concern rather the possibility of shrinkage cracks coming through the tile.
