I know this has been addressed before, but I can’t get the search to work (copper supply pipes again). What’s the take on installing ceramic tile directly on a concrete slab?

Go to John Bridge's tile forum. Excellent tile forum. I learned everything I used on my bathroom there. From making your own shower pan, to cleaning tiles. Not that I don't trust people here, but thats where the Thinset Slingers hang out.

We have tile on slab on grade in our valley house, 17 years old and no problems at all. It works fine provided that the concrete stays dry, and there are no major cracks due to soil problems under it. In fact, this weekend's project is ripping out carpet and tiling the other half of that floor.
