Hi,
I’m getting ready to float my first bathroom floor with deck mud (1 part portland – 5 parts masonry sand) in preparation for tile. I’ve read both John’s book and the book by Michael Byrne. Mr. Byrne says that if you want to tile over the deck mud the day after floating the floor you must use a latex additive to cure the floor properly. He says that if you don’t use it you would need to wait 28 days before tiling.
I could not find any such instruction in the John Bridge book. I would like to tile within 2-3 days of floating the floor. Can anyone tell me if using the latex additive is a necessity?
Thanks, Dave

I've never seen a tile sub wait longer than the next day to start laying the tile after floating the base.
Holidays and weekends excepted, of course. rg
