question: What is the best way to remove a kitchen tile floor from a concrete slab? I know the tile will break up easily but I have heard the thin set has to be chiseled off!
A new tile floor will be put down.

I use a Hilti demolition hammer with a scaling bit. Wear eye protection 'cause the stuff will fly! If don't have a demo. hammer, you can't rent one for about $50.00 at any rental center. Once the tile is up, use a wallpaper scraper to scrape the thinset up. It will come up very easily. You can get a wallpaper scraper at any home center. They are about 12" long, red handle, with a 4 inch straight blade. Once you get started you , the tile and thinset will come up very easily. If you cet a chunck of tile or thinset that won't come off with a scraper, us the demo. hammer and scale it off. Good Luck. Reinhard
*I've always used a digging bar with a 2 1/2" blade (+/-) to chip up the tile. A chipping hammer is also nice but the bar is a bit quicker for the easy parts--then clean up with the chipper. The bar can be slid along to knock up whole tiles (with luck) or dropped vertically to shatter stuck globs of thinset. It's work no matter how you do it. Good luck.
