MK has been a long trusted manufacturer of tile and brick saws. the pricing for MK has come down significantly, so maybe the quality is not as good as it used to be. Dollar for Dollar I'd buy MK. but if the Husky is cheaper, and you will not use it often, then you would do just fine with it.
There are many other brands. Most of which are very good. Keep in mind that trends are going to larger tiles, and sometimes diagonal patterns. I would make sure you get a saw large enough to handle your larger tile.
I would also buy a heavy extension cord and a GFCI plug adapter to go with your new saw.
Thanks for the advice….I only have three rooms to do with the saw and the husky has attractive payment options.
First of all, good evening and happy thanksgiving. Now regarding the tile saw. I remodeled my master bath this spring. I was going to borrrow the old man's MK saw, but it's big and bulky. Then i was going to buy a smaller MK for about $3oo w/stand, but i'm a carpenter and don't do tile everyday. So, i was at the depot buying the tile and they had a tablesaw style tile saw for $90 w/blade. It was a work force brand(yellow). Normally i only buy the top of the line for obvious reasons. Anyways i bought and it worked great. It has a 6" or 7" blade. However, it's a table saw set-up so you can cut any size tile. It also comes w/ a sliding miter guide, and the whole table will bevel to a 45 degree angle. The blad is splash lubricated. The saw is a bit messy and rather loud, seeing it's just a metal box w/a motor. In conclusion if you only do tile once in a while, this is a good all purpose tile saw. Buy it and use the other $200 for other new toys. Hope this helped, and sorry for being long winded. Have a good weekend. bri
I just bought the mk 370 exp from Amazon on sale. It bevel cuts tile (which works well as long as the bevel is a 45). Lots of power for its size, but managebale for one person. It came with a stand.
i got the husky from HD, and it is a pretty good tile saw. it can rip pretty large pieces of tile, and the cuts were very clean. its a bit louder than i would like, but i think that comes with the price territory.
MK - you will never say, "I wish I had bought an inferior tool."
If it turns out you do not need it after a while, you will get a decent price at resale.
Jim
Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
I'm also looking for a tile saw. I saw the WorkForce and Husky in HD, Lowe's has the QEP line. I don't know anything about them but they looked kinda cheap to me. I may try to find a used MK if they have the best reputation. I'm only doing 2 rooms for now... more if the Mrs. really likes it....
any other ideas or options are appreciated -
Get the DW24000. Dewalt's wet saw has great water collection, power, and the saw tilts for mitercuts. Great saw, does great tile...
you want the best get a Felker mines going on fifteen years no troubles at all and the accuracy is the best in the industry, but I have been through 5 pumps porcelain slurry is tough on pumps.
