I am a 30 y.o. timber framer currently working in the Pacific Northwest. My wife will be attending graduate school at UGA in Athens, GA, starting in August. We plan to be in the area two years and I am looking to find a position with a “high end” custom builder. I plan to start my own business sometime in the next five years. I am thrilled to be doing the kind of work I am doing now (fabrication as well on site installation of custom timber frames), but I realize that if I am to go into business that I need to get more experience in some of the other areas of the building process. Perhaps I wasn’t paying quite close enough attention in my early twenties when I didn’t see myself being a carpenter at age 30. Well, now I’m in love with the business and would like to diversify my skills. I would appreciate any recommendations on some good builders in the area.
