I am a recent Architecture Graduate that has jumped ship into the world of General Contracting. Within the year I have begun my own design/build firm in Springfield, Missouri, and I continue to learn from the magazine and these discussion groups.
Onto the question at hand: I am fascinated by timber frame construction techniques, and would be interested in visiting an active job site while honeymooning in Down East/ Central Maine. If any of you could reccomend a builder who knows their stuff, (and wouldn’t mind a visitor for an hour or so) I would appreciate the chance to drop by their job site. (october 8-14)
thanks, jay

Jay,
I don't have any idea if they still do it, but 15-20 years ago, if you stopped in at the Todd Benson shop in Alstead(?) NH, whoever spotted you first would stop what they were doing and take you for a tour.
I even got a few mintes with Benson, himself.
Not exactly close to Maine; Just east of the CT river between NH & VT, a bit south(?) of Hanover, if I recall. But heck, if you're going to be in the neighborhood, a stop at Mecca might be in order.
*Couldn't be a better idea, Bob. I have not been there, but Benson is still THE MAN.
*Hey - since you're going to be in the area for a week with nothin to do but play newlywed (and THAT get old in a hurry) (you're going to have plenty of years to say "Yes dear"), why not see if you can sign on as an apprentice framer for a couple of days? Nothing beats hands on experience.
