I tried Timberteck decking, made by Timberteck Limited of Columbus Ohio. It seemed to be a miracle product for outside decking, no paint or stain required. The literature stated it “virtually” absorbs no moisture and wont split or warp like wood. In October, 1999 I built a $400,000 custom home and added a $6000 deck to the back. By Christmas cupping had begun. The Rep from the Timbertech told me I needed additional ventilation, so I doubled the foundation vents. The warping got worst! Just before Valentines day, the territory rep visited the site. Untreated yellow pine as decking would have performed better by now. This guy was very condescending to us, because everybody knows that those who work with their hands are stupid and could not possibly grasp the technical aspects of the plastic-decking-Timberteck-world.
Last week I was informed they were not going to honor their 10 year warrantee. I should have chosen their 2×6 product instead of the 5/4×6. The irony is that the 2×6 was not even available in October!
They have a slogan on Timberteck literature-
“You’ll never find wood this good” After this, I HOPE YOU GUYS NEVER FIND TIMBERTECK.

Sandy,
Could you explain what you meant when you mentioned foundation vents? Does this mean you built the deck on a full foundation of some sort? I build quite a few decks here in RI and have been intrigued with TimberTech, but obviously I don't want to have the trouble you did. I haven't used it yet, but my usual method of construction would use an open-air post and beam support system, not a foundation.
Anyway, I am sorry to hear of the problem. Hope the house was profitable!
