Does anyone know if you can tint Polyeurethane to change the color of the floor?
I did a small hardwood repair and the stain color is a little lighter than the rest of the floor.
I am hoping to tint some eurethane to get the color closer to what it should be. I will only be eurethaning those boards so blending the eurethane is not a problem from old to new.
Anyone know if and how to do this? What tinting can be used?
Thanks
Jeff

Me again.
You can use the goop from an UNSTIRRED can of minwax stain or any artists oil colors..need I remind you, test a scrap first.

What Shpere said. You can also get "universal" colorants/tints out of catalogs like Rockler that should work.
Varathane sells tinted polyurethane under the brand name "Polyshades."
It's a pretty well worn path to add a little stain to your poly.
Called a "Toner"

I just add stain. Ditto the testing remark.

curious, why wouldn't you darken the stained part a little more, rather than try a last chance effort with the poly?, let the stain settle then use the goop in the bottom, or tint it .. better chance of a match than with the top coat ..
I'll skip the stain part of your question cause someone will be along shortly with a better answer.
But the toner adds depth and richness to the poly. I tend to add a little color even if I'm not trying to stain per say, the poly just needs that little extra warmth to not look so plastic like.
Very good point.
Whatever color you are looking for, go a little light on the stain and then add the same color to the poly. You get a much more even and deeper finish. Avoids blotching.
