Hey maybe I searched the archives wrong, and I remeber we have had good dsicusssions on framing roofs with TJ-I's, but has there been any articles on them. I have only seen two done in the area and both failed inspections,one because of wrong hanger use at the ridge and not enough midspan support (builder cut corners) and the other for incorrect cuts at the plate line, both wer by the same builder, no longer in business. I asked our local building inspector if there was any contractors in our area that regularly use them in the roof and he could not think of anyone
Now that the season is in full swing again, and if you have time, any comments or help toward TJ-I roofs would be helpful
* From the graveyard...Your lumberyard can get you a chart showing ridge and plate joining methods. If you spec them for rafters, they'll also supply you with a CAD drawing indicating required joist sizes and hanger info.
*Josh - Your I-joist supplier should have a book with tons of details about how to do this. Some companies have a "contractor's" guide, and a more complete "designer's guide". Get the more complete one if you can - It'll have a lot more info in it.
*We did it. I got info from TGI. We screwed and glued OSB gussets at the peak on both sides of the joists. Here is our house web site if you are interested.The Lackman House

*Ron,Looks like the rafters run over the ridge. What's your take on the foam strips for the thermal break? Seems like that would make for a very weak roof diafragm, never saw that one before. Looks like a nice job Jesse.Tom
